GRETA GETS IT!

Meet Greta
WHERE I CAME FROM
I'm a lifelong Oklahoman, lifelong Republican, small--business owner, and Shawnee City Commissioner who, after leaving the insurance industry to pursue self employment, has seen insurance from the same side most Oklahomans do — the consumer’s side.
A THRIVING CAREER & FAMILY
After graduating from Oklahoma Baptist University, I began my career in insurance, where I worked for over a decade. While raising a family and maintaining a happy marriage to my husband, Elliot. I've also launched and managed several businesses. From insurance professional to business professional to hardworking mom, I have firsthand experience with the challenges Oklahoma families and entrepreneurs face when navigating insurance costs and red tape.
WHY I'M RUNNING
I'm running for Insurance Commissioner to bring common sense, accountability, and consumer advocacy back to the Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID). I'm not backed by industry or lobbyists — I'm backed backed by everyday Oklahomans who want fair rates, transparent regulation, and an agency that works for them.
Insurance shouldn’t be about the big companies and their profit margins. It’s about giving Oklahoma families the peace of mind they need. It should be reducing stress, not increasing it.
Greta's Agenda
A Conservative, Consumer-Focused Agenda
Greta’s campaign is rooted in conservative principles — transparency, competition, and accountability — and grounded in the belief that a stronger, better-informed Oklahoma can mean lower costs, better coverage, and more trust in the system that protects us all.
Reform “File-and-Use” Rate Rules
Yes, Oklahoma weather is bad. But we should not have the worst property insurance rates in Oklahoma. We must seriously address our current “File-and-Use” system as it is broken. We must require oversight by qualified actuaries before rate increases take effect.
Keep Individuals and Families in Charge of Health Decisions
When insurance companies delay or deny coverage, it drives a wedge between doctors and patients. The Insurance Commissioner can help restore trust by holding insurers accountable, ensuring that medical decisions are made by doctors, not by paperwork and profit margins.
Lower Rates & Increase Competition
Reduce dependence on captive or affiliated carriers by encouraging more insurers to do business in Oklahoma, fostering true competition, expanding consumer choice, and ultimately lowering rates.
Fix Licensing & Continuing Education
Cut unnecessary bureaucracy while maintaining high standards, ensuring quality agents, not just more paperwork.
Make Pricing Optimization Illegal
Work with the Legislature to follow 15 other states who have already banned this practice due to unfair cost gouging.
Disaster Preparedness & Education
Equip families and small businesses with practical tools and education to better prepare for Oklahoma’s storms and natural disasters.
Internship Program for Industry Careers
Launch a new internship initiative introducing Oklahoma students to high-demand insurance careers, including roles like actuaries and claims analysts.
Empower Consumers to Prevent Claims
Expand consumer education programs on how to reduce risks and avoid costly claims, keeping rates lower for everyone.
Partner with Cities for Smarter Building
Encourage local governments to adopt proactive, durable construction standards that keep insurance affordable while protecting property owners.
Make Uninsurable Homes Insurable Again
Pursue municipal and state grant opportunities to help homeowners repair or retrofit properties that are currently uninsurable.
Greta Shuler believes Oklahoma deserves an Insurance Commissioner who works for people, not profit.
